Germany CTD upon Join Alliance request

Hi peoples. Here's some info:

HoI2 v1.1
Win 2k
1Gb RAM
2.18Gb free HD space
NVidia Geforce 660GT
Sound blaster Live!
DirectX 9.0b
Bog standard MS Keyboard & mouse
I read the sticky (sorry I couldn't find some of the driver info)

Description of problem:
Firstly, I'm playing as Germany and I've taken most of Russia, but they still refuse to give in which is odd. No other nations seem to want to join the Axis (apart from Slovakia) & when I attempted to ask Japan I got a CTD when I hit the 'OK' button to confirm that I wanted to ask them.
Umm, that's about it.

When you load the autosave or other save game, and ask Japan to join do you get a CTD everytime?

Yes, I tried the previous save game and the same thing happened. I'm also using the stony road graphics pack, but I'm pretty sure that can't mess with the game like that.
Would you like the save game(s)?

Nope if it is repeatable then it is a bug and this is not a bug reporting forum.
