I just bought Crusader Kings Complete on a whim and my golly it is frightening. I am an expert EU player, decent at Vicky, but I don't even know where to begin. Suggestions?

Easy ... start here: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=347074

:) ... check out the noob guides, and maybe even the YouTube videos if the interface is giving you problems :)

Also a few technical things:

1. Many who bought the Complete pack don't install the DV expansion correctly. Make sure it is installed IN you CK folder, not seperately in a DV folder.

2. Beta-patch. Once you done the above, you need to apply the latest beta-patch: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showpost.php?p=8983876&postcount=6

CK Complete only comes with the beta-patch from June 2008. The last one fixes some important issues with the expansion.

Easy way to spot if you are running CK with or without the expansion, start a game, and check where the ruler portrait is. If it is on the right of the screen, you are only running CK. If it is on the left, you have the DV expansion installed correctly.

Otherwise ... just play a bit, try out stuff, and feel free to come back and ask specific questions :)

I would suggest playing as the Duke of Apullio (sp?) down in the Naples area of Italy. You aren't part of any kingdom and you can form the Kingdom of Sicily pretty quick if you want. There are no major enemies around who want to crush you. So you can play nice and easy at first until you get the hang of it.

good suggestion ... but check out the Good starter nations thread .. can be found in the link I gave.

Usually beginners are suggested small kingdoms or large duchies that are safe and near places where you can do some warring on relgious enemies without too many risks .... Apulia, Bohemia, Denmark and Sweden are often suggested as good starting nations.
