is this serial killer/child rapist in the game?

he was killed in 1440 and was a baron ... and fought alongside jeanne d' arc

A search thru the Dynasty names shows ----

dynasty = {
id = { type = 12 id = 22006 }
name = "de Rennes"
province = { 101 }

The province is Rennes, but in the latest scenario for CK/DV (100 years war - 1337), the province of Rennes is in the personal demesne of the Duke of Brittany. It would be possible to have courtiers spawn with that Dynasty name, but that character hasn't even be born yet and the game doesn't spawn specific characters after the start date for each scenario that exactly match Real Life characters born after that date, nor would it have 'every' real person alive at that time, unless they were really important/rulers of specific game regions (and their family alive at the time).

If someone more knowledgeable would speak up and give more info or prove me wrong would be appreciated.

Edit: If you're wanting to play that family, the only Scenario that starts with that family already placed, is Hasting - 1066. The de Rennes family starts out controlling two provinces under the Duke of Brittany, Rennes and Penthievre (each controlled by a different branch).

The last scenario starts in 1337, Gilles de Rais was not born before at least 1400 so you will not find him in the game.

His lands the "pays de Retz" was a part of Brittany on the south of the Loire but in the game it would be the north of the county of Thouars, maybe you could add this dynasty for this province.

If I remember correctly he is a general and his trial is a historical event with multiple choices in EU2. I don't remember if he is general in EU3 or not.

So you might want to check the EU series.

haha I think this wins the award for most random thread of the week. Wait, make that most random thread of the year :p.

I certainly dont remember any rapist generals in EUIII, lets just hope that I am correct lol.

<<< rubs his eyeballs.

Did the subject line for this thread always say 'de Rais', or did the OP change it?

Otherwise, I must've gone completely bonkers when I read it before. lol

hahaha i was reading about jeanne d' arc and then about this little fella here and i thought hmm.. it would be interesting to see him in crusader kings haha

but if you read the wikipedia on him, it talks about how he would hang little boys up and masturbate on their bellies and rape them after physically mutilating them

Which is probably crap told by his enemies, who were many.

Can you belive that Caligula was not really a mad emperor, that he was just inept and childish, but the storytellers exaggerated his madness? The same with Gilles de Rais.

I think that if we're going to discuss about the man himself this thread should go to history forums, since he isn't even in the game.

While I'm not expert in this topic, I believe that while there are some who think that there was conspiracy against Baron de Rais, most historians think that he was a murderer. To frame him there would have been need for considerably large conspiracy. There was several witnesses and man himself confessed his crimes (although there was plan to torture him unless he confesses voluntarily, which was standard practise back then). While some of the details of the murders may have been exaggerated (that wasn't unusual in heresy cases), there is no reason to doubt that he was a killer. If Duke of Brittany wanted to get rid of him, he would have had a lot less scandalous means to do it.
