I was playing the German 36 scenario on AoD 1.04, when the Danzig event did not fire for some reason. When it had not fired by the middle of September, I decided to declare war on Poland myself. (Don't try this at home...).

Every Allied nation including the USA, Holland and Denmark immediately declared war on me while I attacked Poland. The first thing I knew, I was fighting US planes in Poland, the Netherlands attacked and conquered undefended Wilhelmshaven driving my 15-ship surface fleet into the sea, where it was immediately annihilated by the British and Dutch (?) navies, and the British and French planes hammering Germany were joined by US planes, while my sub fleets in the Atlantic were being sunk by joint US-British fleets.I DID manage to conquer Poland, but this seemed a bit to ahistorical for my taste (how would Roosevelt convince Congress to go to war in 1939, and what interest would countries like Holland and Denmark have in declaring war on Germany in 1939?). I have to admit that this might have led to a fascinating what-if game.

So I shot myself in the head (reloaded a saved game, that is) and this time the Danzig event fired and things started to follow a more historical line while I conquered Poland.

After that I decided to install the 1.05 and 1.06 patches and so far the game seems to continue fine as I move my units West to prepare the war against France.

I think you meant your title as "Gotterdammerung", the name of the 1944 scenario.

Anyways, good luck!
