Going from a lord to a high lord

I never seem to have a huge problem doing this in the normal game, but in the mod its almost impossible to usurp titles.
I have all but 1 county in a de jure high lordship, but I cannot usurp because we are both in the same realm (iron throne). I feel like this game mechanic is broken in the mod, or am I just stupid and doing something wrong? I shouldn't have to wait for marriage/fabricated claims to get my hands on a high lordship when I've worked hard to get all the counties from scratch.

Yes you should, you have literally no claim to the High Lordship so why should you own it? You need a claim to try and get any title, it makes sens.

You should have a claim (marriage, fabricated,..). And then war!
Maybe you have to usurp some lordship first to have enough soldiers

If I own every single province in a high lordship, I think that should correlate to a pretty solid claim to the duchy, don't you?..

I assume the High Lord is your leige. If so, you my be able to make them rise in rebellion against their leige. Once that happens, do all you can to make the war go badly for the HL. Then, after the top liege takes away the high lordship, you can demand that you be give the High Lord.

I realised that the title of high lord gets deleted if you take away all the counties that the high lord owns (fabricating claims) and you can then form the title yourself.
