Moo I'd like to submit a train station as my building BUT I need to know how the asset importer works with train stations? Ie: How wide in meters is the 2 way train track, are platforms props that get added into the asset - if so how wide are they?

That way i can plan my station around the tracks
thanks!

**also, if we do model the platforms ourselves, how high do we make them compared to the train so it doesn't look out of line with the passenger trains>?

Recommended face counts I've read are
~1000-2500 for small zoned buildings
~ 5000 for the largest zoned buildings
~10.000 for the biggest ploppable buildings

1K and 2K textures are good. You can go non-square if you like, but still keep the texture map the power of two. So you could make a 256x1024 for example.

Let me research some of these details for you. For now, do what you can to make it look great, and hopefully the adjustments to make it functional will be minimal.

So we have to submit a .fbx file ?

Yes please. We want to actually show off importing the model into the game (All credit will still stay with the maker).

What does that mean in terms of using existing buildings as inspiration?

Please do! But because this is hosted by Paradox, which receives profits for the game, you'll need to avoid any trademarked logo's or exact replicas of privately/corporate owned buildings.

The building part of the wiki is still very vague. What is the max map size ? 1024 or 2048 if we go for a bigger building ?

What is the max geometry faces count ?

Do we have to care about the LODs right now ?? Or will it be about the main model for the moment ?

OlaHaldor pretty much answered this. Do try to minimize polycount, but focus on the main model. Essentially, make something that can be used in game. Updates can always be made later if you choose to post to Steam Workshop.

Nope! Submit as many entries as you want! Just as long as they are uniquely different from your other entries (We won't count XHouse with Blue Roof and XHouse with Red Roof, haha!)

And XHouse with blue and black roof and XHouse with white and gold roof ??? No ?

1 - Can be real buildings?
2 - ONLY 4 DAYS?! D:

Yes, but no copying of private or corporate owned buildings. At least for this Paradox hosted competition.
And ya, we know it's a short time, but we know how hard these last few days of waiting are. So we wanted to give you something to do and see while waiting.

I also posted under the Contest OP about LOD and polycount info directly from Henkka

So i still dont understand, what you wanna mean whit "but no copying of private or corporate owned buildings" like world trade center tower? Or rockfeller center? Or wallmart stores?

So, to put in a nutshell :
- roughly 5k polys
- up to 2k texture
- don't have to take care of LoD
- no exact replicate of a corporate building
- as many entries as we want
Am I right ?
I already got a few house that i modelled for some high-poly project that i have to convert. what about the visual style ? All my house are very modern, with a lot of cubic forms.

5k polys is for big zoned buildings

Yes, those are all examples of things not to model (for this contest). You can draw inspiration from famous buildings, but don't copy them exactly.

Question : Will optimization be taken into account ?? (if we manage to keep our polycount very low)

Not for this contest. Only if the polycount is too high will that affect your entry's chance of winning.

Keep it around 1000 if you are doing zoned buildings, if you're making bigger ploppable buildings you can go up to 10k. Keep it reasonable =) [Edit] ~3000-5000 is a reasonable amount for most ploppables
If you can, make a LOD model. However, the contest judgment will be based on the main model.

Feel free to pick any visual or architecture style you wish!
