Well i thought of a possible 1492 game with 6-8 players one haveing to be swizterland, they will act as a U.N. i know thats not saying much lately but they will mediate between all other human players and try to keep the human players civil. All players will protect them if attacked, and pay an annual duty for the first few years.
The game will try to go all the way through and try to keep the wars to a more modern type making lots of allies and then asking the swis if it is moral to attack or not.
Regions of conquest will be preselected as to avoied early imperial tension and wars.
please give me feed back and suggestions

sound like a great idea, exept when France and Austria ally, annex the swiss and declare the world divided between themselves. or someone just pulls a japan and walks out and refuses to recognize the authority of switzerland, then the swiss can't enforce anything.

well during a tense time they would have to handle other players and control politics,If the swiss player would be allowed view all maps then maybe become a colonization power, and be allowed protected areas, and during wars given land and if a player broke the brokerd agrements and it lead to war then the swis will take an active fighting role. The reason i chose the swis is because of their modern position and their location and size maybe someone could throw out another suggestion for a country to handle this.

Portugal? The Swiss don't have access to a port thus they can't send colonists. Personally I think this whole idea is a bit shaky but if you get a game going, I'm France. :)

Usually when i play England i end up settling everyone's disputes and being peacekeeper anyway. Act as the middle man in continental wars, after they beat each other up a bit:)

In theory, you have a good idea. Switzerland would be irrelevant to the other countries. It is up to the players to form a peace pact to condemn aggression. I think it would be more interesting without a mandatory neutral third party but rather an optional neutral third party.

A good situation would be France attacking Lorraine stating 'rightful' claims. Austria backs French claims, but all the other nations condemn the attack as selfish aggression. As France invades Lorraine a large coalition of nations declare war basing the French attacks unjust using their own judgement, not Swiss judgement. France annexes Lorraine, but initially loses the war. Austria never gives actual armed support as being threatened Ottoman invasion. A treaty is settled. France has to pay reparations and has to release Lorraine.

well if the swis have no major objection whats the prob...but if there is a problem, then some how my appesing both sides the swis will have to defuse the situation...something like france would gain loraine by giving up colonial areas or pay for the province or maybe militarily backing one of the countries opposing it in a future war
