Summary

Grand Wedding Betrothal Broke Game

Description

Running into yet another bug with Grand Wedding betrothals. I had one of my kids betrothed, but the other ruler broke off the engagement before the wedding. I don't know if it is relevant, but they broke off the betrothal because they became my rival after I killed their brother.

Now, not only am I unable to promise any additional new Grand Weddings, but my son can't even be regularly betrothed to anyone. He was supposed to be my heir, so it's a pretty game breaking issue. I have no idea how badly this bug will affect my playthrough--it's not that big of a deal if things will become fixed if he and the presumptive bride were to die, but if it completely broke Grand Weddings then I'd like to know soon enough to start a new play through.

I searched through the forum, and saw multiple other similar reports going back months, but apparently this issue hasn't been fixed. It's honestly very frustrating that this game has seen two additional pieces of DLC released without them having fixed a massive issue with the previous major expansion pack. I haven't played the game in a few months, and I don't want to be whiney, but the last campaign I started got derailed by an almost identical bug with Grand Weddings being called off. The fact this issue hasn't been fixed since then, but more paid content continues to be released, makes it difficult to commit to continue playing this game.

Steps to reproduce

1) Betroth son to the daughter of a neighboring duke.
2) Have said Duke break the betrothal (in this case because they became your rival after you killed a relative)

For what it's worth, the specific mechanism that broke the betrothal might have been the other duke giving their daughter away as a hostage. I did not notice whether they became a hostage before or after the betrothal was broken, since I only realized it just now while doing debugging.

After using the debug tool to kill the would-be spouse, I got an event about how the betrothal was over (despite it previously being broken). After that, I was able to do more grand weddings. However, my son is still unable to marry anyone. I'm not sure if him inheriting land would allow him to marry again.
