Since this game seems to be aiming to pretty much be The TvTropes Scifi Category Grand Strategy Game, it has to be asked:

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GreenSkinnedSpaceBabe

In addition to having the possibility for aliens with no biological similarity to humans, will there also potentially be a race of gorgeous green beauties that just happen to be biologically compatible with humans? Either due to the scientifically sound principle of "because we said so" or the equally valid explanation of being a splinter race.

More seriously, Star Trek is somewhat famous for having most of the major species being able to reproduce together, with some help. Is this something we could see in the game, under the right circumstances?

In Star Wars most humanoid races are human subspecies so ditching a bunch of shmucks on a shithole in the middle of nowhere and coming back in a milenium to see how things have turned how could work. What you most likely want to do is genetically engineer the desired traits into a colony of humans until they have a subspecies classification. For this happening upon world generation humans can't even breed with monkeys so I doubt that a race of fish people from the far side of the galaxy are going to fare much better.

First of all, I'm pretty sure that that is not how Star Wars works (but its been a few months since I skimmed wookiepedia). Even species regarded as beautiful like the Twi'leks are not biologically related to humans (though maybe the Zeltrons are, I don't remember).

Anyway, again, if they way to play up scifi tropes, this is a big one, regardless of acientific accuracy.

Elerian-like super babes please.

I know (expect to) it won't happen, but why not play with the idea.

(edit)
So curious what they decided to do in this regard and looking forward to the dev diaries or whatver we get.

On one hand I do hope that we see some less humanoid aliens but on the other you've got to come up with aliens that essentially make sense; Intelligence and ability to manipulate basic & not so basic tools is a must.

Pretty sure there will be both male and female portraits for all the races. As for interbreeding, I doubt it comes up (at least until the Way of Space DLC introduces the seduction endgame).

You assume all races will have two genders. We could have something comparable to the Asari from Mass Effect, a race with no real gender, a race with more than two genders... Its space. Nothing will surprise me.

All of this skirts around the main issue: If you can have a "Kirk" (you can) then will he have the opportunity to teach a space babe the meaning of this earth emotion called love?

If there is a race with 5 genders, and all 5 are required to reproduce, that will surprise me.

Define "most". I can only think of two such combinations appearing in canon sources.

Technically, it should Pike in this case. He's the one who actually had a scene with a green skinned alien woman, not Kirk. ;)

Green Skinned Space babes? Oh, I know exactly the kind of sexy Greenskins I want to see in the game!

latest

What?

They are green skinned! And also genderless, which means that with some imagination they can be called "babes". And nobody can deny Orks are sexy!

well that made my day!:D

as for all the people talking about interspecies reproduction, the generally accepted most basic requirement is an at least 95% genetic similarity between would-be parents. this is seen IRL most often in the wild with the best known cases being big cat halfbreeds (like ligers) and equine halfbreeds (likes zonkees). so i guess some races in stellaris could feasibly interbreed, but if there's too much variation, it just might not happen.

when it comes to sci-fi series like star wars, star trek, and even fantasy-based like TES... they are actually very quite accurate AFAIK)in their modeling of it.

in star trek; humans, klingons, vulcans, romulans, etc can interbreed because they were all from the same kind of DNA strain that was seeded throughout the galaxy.

http://en.memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Ancient_humanoid

in star wars, humans (which are essentially the generic species) is reproductively compatible with almost a dozen different species naturally, and about half a dozen more with genetic manipulation or some wacky dark side crap because... idk... reasons.
originally they were incompatible with Twi'leks but according to the Star Wars: The Clone Wars Character Encyclopedia, they are now compatible. i don't get why but hey, nobody has ever accused disney of being scientifically accurate :/

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Hybrid

elder scrolls is fairly stringent- human races and elf races can all interbreed with each other (and in the case of bretons, creat an entirely new race all together) but not much else.

and of course the honorable mention of the Asari from mass effect. a truly original and intriguing idea for once. good on you bioware, almost makes up for ME3s ending.

EDIT: oh, a little bit of a downer but something that should get pointed out for the sake of accuracy- one thing that sci-fi tends to leave out with interbreeding is that while it is very much possible, many IRL hybrid offspring almost always get a double dose of severe or termninal health problems (remember those gentic differences i was talking about? yeah...) as well as being ostricized by society. both animals and people can really suck at times.

Listing just major/recurring characters: Spock, Troi, Torres, K'ehlar, Alexander (3/4 klingon), Sela, Saavik (maybe), and many more one-shot characters/babies. Plus a few dozen half Dukat/half Bajorans, in all likelyhood.

As for Pike, its important to note that the babe he had a scene with was just an illusion.

I'm getting the impression many consider it an either/or proposition. Given how random and procedural the game is looking to be, there should be any number of possibilities:
- Green space babe love slaves, subjugated across the galaxy for their, un, dancing skills (Twi'leks)
- Green space babe mono-sex race (Asari)
- Green space babe near humans (half Star Trek species)
- Green space babe warriors (Elerians)
- Green space hunks (Falleen)
- No Green space babes at all, because dammit Jim, Science!
- Green space babes with tentacles

I mean if we're getting a collection of female 'babes' can we get a collection of green skinned Adonis(es). Perhaps with blond hair and unnecessarily sexualised outfits?

After all, it seems natural that some of these races will be matriarchal.

Depends on how many token sci-fi races there will be. If we have the classic palette of rat aliens, cat aliens, lizard aliens, slug aliens etc. then there is no reason not to have the space Amazons as well. If you cross the line you might as well go all the way.

However if Paradox opts for genuinely imaginative designs then I would automatically oppose any kind of humanoid aliens.
