I just happened to know last week that Paradox Interactive was just about to release sometime this year an arctic-theatered naval warsim; something that really had me interested from the get-go.
In the early 2000s, I played Sub Command and there were some Arctic missions if I recalled correctly, my sub hit the polar ice on several occassions and I got severe reprimands from SubCom.
More recently, I played Silent Hunter 4 (I omit mentioning SH3 since SH4 really blew my imagination, more than SH3 anyway...) and I did go beyond the Kamchatka and what not and let me tell you that my boat sunk like a stone hitting the ice. Needless to say, the game was not designed to that extent, i.e. Arctic naval warfare.
For years, I played Combat Mission: Shock Force, but no Arctic theater was available (Syria does not rhyme with ice!); I have not purchased CM: Battle for Normandy (based on Shock Force's engine) yet, but there might be some winter-time scenarios.
Now that this game wil be set in the Modern era, I hope that it will have the depth of Sub Command and a graphical interface both comprehensive and intuitive. I reckon that graphics can be a real pain for a game of this magnitude since a warship commander or the XO will most likely make use of the ship's defensive/offensive capabilities from the CoC than from the bridge itself. Like Sub Command, external images (explosions, events, etc.) should be left optional, especially since naval combat is rarely done in close quarter but rather at distances where visibility is truly barely possible...

Please, do not disappoint us...
