On my very first playthrough, I wound up earning the "Sly Killer" forged bloodline, because I didn't even realize that you got different bloodlines for different methods of forging them, and executing some war prisoners seemed pretty easy. When I read the flavor text, talking about the shapeless cloud of dread hanging behind the welcoming facade of my palace, with its sinister reputation of swallowing her guests whole and leaving not even a trace of them, I was confused.

"Oh, so I'm supposed to invite them to my court, and /then/ kill them."

Of course.

Since then, as for any post-virginal player, any time I want to murder someone, it's automatic on the checklist to see if I can invite them to my court. It's just so much easier to murder someone who's just down the hall, with the help of not only all of my vassals, but my entire extended family, and everyone in my court, with whom I necessarily maintain good relations for other reasons, above all, to keep them from trying to murder me or my family.

The issue is - while this makes the murder opportunities show up, one after another, until one finally lands, there's still the chance that a given attempt will fail, and the victim will discover it. When they do discover it, it doesn't occur to them to simply leave my court. The premise of every horror movie, in which you are invited to some austere palace / mansion / whatever and then you discover that your host is trying to have you killed, is that you plot to escape. If you, I, or any movie protagonist discovered that our host was trying to kill us, we would be gone that night and out of the country by Tuesday - probably, conveniently grabbing whatever line of code makes people decide what court to flee to after a failed attempt to imprison them, and just sticking that onto the "failed attempt; plot discovered" event if:resident of murderer court.
