Hi,
I was goiun to play HoI 2 on valkyrinet with a frien, and fisrt I tried to Host a game, but I couldn't, then I tried to join my friens gamewhen he Hosted, but when I tried to join it just got me a message saying that "No Game found on IP Adress ...... Please Check Adress, Router and Firewall"
and I don't have a router, I have tryed to turn of my Firewall, but still it's not workinG....

HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Describe your computer setup.
What kind of connection do you have?
What kind of firewall?
Do you connect through other computers?
... as it is, its a little difficult to help.

I'm also having this problem, turned firewall off, patched game, and still that box comes up :(

I'm on a college network so it's pretty fast. I have my own IP so it's not trying to connect directly to the school it's going to my own computer.

What kind of other info do you need exactly? I'd really like to play this with other people (without making my roomies buy it like i did with hoi and victoria ;)

Well yeah, you probably do have a router, if you're using a broadband connection with either DSL or a Cable/Modem etc. Your ISP probably calls it a modem, but its really a router by definition be cause it exchanges TCP/IP packets on the network layer of the internet. I have a post on this forum labled step by step router setup, go there.

Your college setup will require you to have access to the school's default gateway. You will probably have issues too, because you are probably using a subnet masking system. You say you have your own "IP," is it a public IP, or known as a WAN-IP. If it's as I suspect a LAN-IP, its because you are on the schools network, and have been assigned an IP using the network's subnet mask. You'll have to contact the school's network admin to get this to work, because the schools primary router, the gateway to the Internet, will have to forward the game info your PCs MAC address within the school's network. Good luck on that one...

hmmmmm, I don't think I have a router.......
atleast my mum says its a Hub......
.......but thats perhaps called a router in English............

Are you certain you have your own IP?
Lemme explain - every single computer connecting to the internet gets an IP address. Now, mostly because there is a lack of those, many networks have a router with 1 public address - all the computers on the network get a private address that is only visible inside the network.

If you run Windows XP, go to "Control Panel" > "Network Connections" and double click the connection (probably there is only one, else try all that are not disabled/disconnected). Click on the "Support" tab. If it says something about "DHCP", then you probably dont have your own IP.
In that case, you are probably out of luck. You would probably have to configure the router, which is impossible if it is shared by a whole college (I'm in a similar situation).

I'm not completely certain, but doesn't the HOI2 license allow you to install on multiple computers for the purpose of a LAN game? (I'm looking through the manual but theres no legal text there...)

In the world of network computing, and the Internet counts, a Hub is a "dumb" device. By "dumb," it can not "route" packets etc. It merely passes the data along, a "hub" is a handy way of connecting several "nodes", your PC being 1, to a common network.

If you are using a broadband connection to the Internet, i.e. DSL, or a Cable Modem, your interface to the Internet will be a "modem," or more acurately, a router, since that modem sits at the Network Layer of the OSI model. This device moves packets across the Internet.

This device may be very simple in that it only communicates with your ISP, and has no options for you to change its settings. You will have to have a device in which you can change the port forwarding settings to get IP traffic forwarded to your PC to play the game.

I have a sticky on this multiplayer forum with the step by step instructions you'll need to setup your "router."
