Basically I can't seem to join or host a game through my gateway computer, it works OK if I use the other computer that is connected to this one through ICS, but that has problems of it's own.
I've had similar problems with a voice-communication program called Battlecom and an RTS called Conquest Frontier Wars. However games like Quake3 and Empire Earth work fine, and voice communication programs like TeamSound, RogerWilco and TeamSpeak work perfectly. I think it may be caused due to having two network cards in this computer, but I'm not really sure, as I don't know what these games look for in deciding the network protocols.
It isn't a huge problem yet as I can use my sisters comp through ICS to play MP, but it isn't a perfect solution, as playing through ICS means I can't host and the connection isn't that stable, plus my sister comes back from the US in a weeks time, which means I won't be able to use her comp.

go to control panel, networks and check what are the network protocols you have there and post it here please (everything, including the cards).

I think the game is incompatible (or just doesn't like) some network protocols. I can't remember wich one however... By posting your network info here, I will remember wich one is to be eliminated.

[EDIT]
If you have Novell Netware Client, try to disable it.

Okay:
General(This is the card that connects to the cablemodem):
Realtek RTL8139(A)-based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter
Client for Microsoft Networks
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
Sharing:
ICS is on

General(Card that connects to the other PC)
NETGEAR FA311 Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter
Client for Microsoft Networks
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

your settings seems correct...

If you deactivate ICS and run your computer as stand-alone instead of networked, will it work then? I'm not a big fan of ICS, and imho, you should search the web for a free proxy that would be better than that.

Also download the latest drivers for your network card, it can't hurt.

Someone once said here that he solved his problmes by having two identical cards (in his case, they were all Realtek) on each computer, so before I send you to the store buying another card, I want to see how it goes in "stand-alone" mode.

Yer it still doesn't work. I think the game just aint decting what it needs, CFW and Bcomm both had blanks for the network protocol, and I assume the same thing is happening with EU2 as nothing happens when I click on the Internet: Host/Join things. I can connect to Valkyrienet(or whatever it's called) but I can't join games, which is all related I guess.
On not using ICS, well it does everything I need it to do so that's why I use it :)

I'm going to move this to the MP forum, maybe someone knows what to do.

I am not very familiar with MP games.

Firewall?
are the ports being blocked?

most likely its ICS - have not had much luck with ICS and games - seems to have issues cuz you ip address is shared with another computer or ICS is blocking some of the IP ports..

It's not ICS as I've tried with it off, Multiplayer works from my sisters computer through ICS, but wont work on mine (the Host computer). It's not the Firewall 'cause I turn that off as well. I'm not willing to take out the second network card, since if that is the problem, then it aint worth finding out as I can't keep installing and unistalling a card everytime I want to play a multiplayer game of EU2.

U can just disable the NIC in system configuration.

IP address, or tin foil with bits of old tires and yoghurt

I know this thread is pretty old, but I am experiencin the same problem and when I tried to ping it failed evrytime exept to myself. Please sombody help!!
