Heya, just following the advice of the 'guide to MP newbies' thread, and taking a moment to introduce myself... also left the thread title name blank to let others do so, as well.

I'm a long-time, SP EU2 player going back a little over 4 years now. I tend to play in serious binges every few months, and have played from the perspective of just about every nation with the exception of native American tribes. I consider myself to be an above-average SP player, having completed a couple of WCs on the highest difficulty and aggression settings, starting with mid-level countries ala The Papacy and Scotland, and once in a particularly difficult venture with the Knights of St. John.

As for MP, I'm sure that I'm currently a bumbling incompetant, but I can say for certain that I'm a quick study and not a jerk, if that helps my resume. :) I'm looking to join a couple of shorter games with new players to learn the ropes of MP, with the aim of getting into a longer, weekly game. As I'm on the verge of getting married, weekends are generally out (claimed by my wife), but perhaps sunday evenings are workable, and I'm happy to play on weeknights. Regrettably, I will on occassion require a sub when work keeps me late at the office - I'm a low-level lawyer in a large firm, and so don't have much control over my hours as yet.

I'm from Chicago, which, if I recall from my months lived in England, puts me at about GMT -6. I can be reached via PM here, on AIM with the name Fajitaduke, and email: fajitaduke@hotmail.com

I'm given to understand that most folks here use ICQ, which I'll be happy to set up once I return from my wedding... which I depart for on Friday. :)

Cheers,
Fajitaduke

- apologies if such a thread already exists, I didn't note one in my quick perusal.

Well, let me be the first to gratulate u on your upcoming marriage! Let it be a long 1! :D

I´m also a newbie but I think I can give u a few pointers. First of all, play as many nappys as u can cause war and diplomacy is the big differents from sp.
seek players in napoleons community thread... red the guides... everybody is hyperteching here in mp...but all that is written down for u to read.... then get icq as u said and sub for different games..subs are always needed and valuable lessons in mp..it also show what kind of guy u are to the "vets".
Reliability is important in here...Due to the lenght of the games, some gm´s need some1 to vouch for or such.. scared of ppl taking a nation down, quitting etc...subbing part is good to make u a "name". thats the way to go...

Welcome Fajitaduke!
I would be so bold as to state that you have entered an entirely new dimension of EU II. Believe me....I haven´t been here long but I have had unbelievably more fun with this game than ever before in Singleplayer. It´s like...it almost multiplies the fun level by a factor of about 100 :D.
Anyway hope to see you soon on the battlefield, ehm, in the game :p.

P.s. : My Congratulations for your wedding as well of course :)

Nappies (Napoleon scenario) games are the best way to learn warfare in MP, I doubt you have to learn much economics since you''ve been playing for 4 years. :p Get ICQ and I'll be happy to play with you some times if the times ever fit. :p

Welcome to our community Fajitaduke,

Like Van Engel said, the best way to understand the warfare is doing some Nappys with a bunch of us... this is the only thing that you will need to understand since you have played EU2 for awhile and it's only difference, fighting humans is nowayyyy like fighting the AI ;)...

Contact me at ICQ when you get it (check my sig), and perhaps you can enter into some Nappys or sub here and there in some MPs so you can get an idea of what's like to play MP..

btw, congratulations.. hope the wife let you have what will be your second love, EU2 MP :D

AIM is compatible with ICQ, so you the_genius can add Fajitaduke on your ICQ, and Fajitaduke can add you on his AIM :)

Really?... hmm... cool!.. I'll try it.. lol

However, in my experience, there are often problems. Actually only one, but it can be bad. Often the AIM user can't contact an ICQ user for the first time. After the first time, either user can contact the other rather easily. Also, the ICQ users are often shown as offline (though they can still be messaged).

FAL, I believe they are delivered to AIM accounts. I know I've gotten a few from juv95hrn in the past on AIM.

AIM is compatible with ICQ yes, but mass ICQ messages won't be delivered to AIM accounts, so I would still advice Fajitaduke to use ICQ :)

I would consider it a bonus not having those mass messages.

Of mass messages, you refer about those annoying incoming messages and authorization-messages that one gets often?

Let's not get carried away with the 'nothing to learn economically' bit. Until last fall, I was still a 'mint to keep monthly revenues at zero' kind of guy. (yes, you can do surprisingly well with this against the computer) Since then I've learned to keep the treasury slider at zero, but I've not yet mastered the fine art of deploying merchants to the correct CoTs on the 3rd of each month, nor the skills to keep them alive.

That said, I'm a good sport about getting kicked around in the early segments of my career. So, I'd be more than happy to be the pawn and get my butt handed to me a few times when I get back from my wedding. But for now... halfway through the Illinois bar exam, and my brain needs a break. Time for some SP AGCEEP before getting prepped for day 2 tomorrow.

I am not sure we are talking about the same thing.

I refer to a GM sending all the players in a campaign an ICQ message for a short time notify.
Something like: 'hey everone, the game will be IP hosted at: xxxxx'
The forum is not always reliable enough to use for this purpose.

Being able to send such mass messages is a great boon for any GM who wants to yell at his players now and then, like me.

If you are in vnet around 19.15 tonight there is a good chance you get a chance to sub. Look for game with me as host.

Why is it a good chance? Because almost every session we have great trouble getting subs for those who announced they cannot play and for those who do not even announce... :(
