So the germans are attacking antwerp and i have nearby tac and fighter bomber groups. I order ground attack missions on antwerp, and what do the fighters do?

Fly to Ghent, a friendly province that is not under attack.

How do i get them to support defending troops when they keep flying to provinces that are not attack :(.

You cannot. This is a 'feature' of the basic HoI2 game engine. Complain to Paradox in the non-CORE forum(s).

Isn't Interdiction a better choice for this kind of situation anyway? AFAIK the planes will support ongoing land battles, and you're more interested in killing the enemy ORG than their strength.

Interdiction is mainly useful versus enemy units you intend to attack with your own ground units. If you have already attacked them, and thus reduced/eliminated their ORG, then Ground Attack is the logical choice as a follow-up to the land battle. Interdicting retreating units will prevent their reorganization, but it's by far more effective to simply wipe the enemy units off of the map entirely, via Ground Attack.

Indeed, but as I understood the OP he's trying to influence a battle where his troops are defending. It's kind of a tossup since the enemy troops in that situation are not dug in, but I'd still try to win the land battle rather than do damage to the advancing units, especially since Interdicting planes will hit the right enemy units and Ground Attacking planes might not.
