Help! EU2 has stopped working! HELP!!!

Hi everyone,

I'm a longtime player of EU2. One week ago, I got a new portable from work (a Dell Latitude c840, almost identical to the Inspiron 8200). I decided to get rid of my old, stationary computer which was inferior in most ways. The stationary used to be my EU2 station.

But now, EU2 won't run properly anymore! DISASTER!!!

I get to the nation selection screen, but after i hit the "START" button, the game stops, and I'm returned to the desktop.

This can't be happening now, I'm just starting a one week holiday which I had intended to spend playing EU2 non-stop.

Please help me!

Hmm, the support forum's the place for this. Presumably someone will push you over.

(but anyway -- clean install of 1.06? Disabled the avi stuff by removing the folder? Turned off the music?)

Anyway - 1.06 clean install, music off, I will try to remove the avi folder but haven't gotten around to that yet.

Very likely removing the avi folder (or just rename it to avi_old) will solve your problem. If it doesn't, I'll need system specifics as per the "read me" sticky at the top of the forum (also link in my sig.) please.

Had the same problem over here. GeForce drivers where causing the problem. If reinstalling them doesnt work, try downloading DirectX9.

Yup...that will be phase 2 of solving the problem...if the avi folder name change doesn't do it.

Note: make sure you are running the Dec. 2002 update to the nVidia graphics drivers since that one has caused by far the fewest problems. This forum's FAQ (link in sig.) has a detailed section with step by step instructions for solving most graphics issues, but I can take you through them myself if you need help. The nVidia link is there too.
