help! HoI_Settings.exe doesn't start, i want to change my settings...

HoI_Settings.exe doesn't start. The only way to see that it is on is in the manager and it says EU2Settings (?) doesn't answer. Trying to switch to it doesn't work and the system is very slow. I can get windowsXP to close the program.

I reinstalled again (uninstalling and then removing all leftovers) and tried with the plain install, to no success. It doesn't work with 1.06 patch or 1.06b. I use the pan version. I want to change my settings...

The game (HOI 1.06b) itself works.

First of all, you can always change your settings by opening the file settings.cfg with notepad or any other ASCII editor.

Secondly, the HoI_Settings.exe program is using OLE automation and the Visual Basic runtime, and is extremely picky about the versions of those .DLL files. Presumably, the versions you have installed in Windows XP are not compatible with what the settings program expects.

Make sure you have 16BIT color selected as well.

I changed it with wordpad. Looks good again.

16bit didn't help btw. Maybe the windows update screwed something up? :wacko:

I think I was having brain freeze, it is the Paradox editor that requires 16BIT graphics beset.

Glad the problem got sorted.
