I paid $40 for this game, which as a student, is ALOT of money for me. ALOT!!! I've done the directors cut patch v1, ive updated my drivers, i made all settings on low, the game is still crappy. It runs slow and choppy, sometimes it saves my games, sometimes it doesnt show it, most times it crashes when loading. The game crashes alot too. The intro movies work fine tho, so hey, at least one completely unimportant aspect of the game works. I had to open the box to install it, so GAMESTOP wont give me a refund. So help me make this game work, or help me get a refund of some kind. I read the minimum requirements and it seems i meet all requirements so I dont know what the problem is. HELP ME PLEASE!!! I wasnt aware you had to be a computer programmer to make this game work.

Minimum Requirements for Game - My System
Windows Vista/XP - Windows 7
Intel Pentium @ 1.6 ghz - Intel 6500 @ 2.10 ghz
1 GB RAM - 4 GB RAM
6 GB Free Hard Drive Space - About 50 times that
Video card: Mobile Intel (R) 4 Series Chipset Family

:(

I have a Toshiba Satellite A300 Special Series.:D

I feel stupid but this is really all I could find on my display/video card specs:
NAME: Mobile Intel (R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family
DAC TYPE: Internal
APPROX TOTAL MEMORY:1759 MB
DISPLAY MODE: 1280 * 800 (32 bit) (60Hz)
Monitor: Generic PnP Monitor
Driver Model: WDDM 1.1
DDI Version: 10
DirectDraw, Direct3D, and AGP Texture Acceleration is enabled for all three.

Civilizations (the new one), Age of Empires 3, Age of Empires War Chiefs + Asian Dynasty expansions all work perfectly on my computer.

Im going to have to save up some money before I can buy another game unfortunetly:(

Sorry for the late reply. Quick googling reveals that one possibility for gfx card is ATI Radeon HD 3650 but I can't be sure. I think the game should run ok with your hardware. Also the game shouldn't crash. This could indicate a problem with drivers or hardware overheating or something like that.

Which "latest drivers" have you tried for your gfx card? ATI Catalyst or some drivers from Toshiba?

Could you please paste here:
- options.txt from Documents/East India Company/Config/ folder
- log.html from the folder the game is installed to
- output of dxdiag.

Almost exactly the same problem. I downloaded the complete series from Impulse and it runs horrible (vers. 1.12). My Sys Req.'s are good and drivers are updated. Win-7, 64-bit. The game is unplayable and the ocean turns to hazy lines during the quick battles.
Help?
Thanks

Hi! Sorry to hear about the problem. Since it's almost the same problem than above and you provided very little info about your system I'll just ask the above questions to get started:

Could you please tell us some more information about your hardware.

Which make and model your laptop/computer is?
Can you tell us more detailed specs about the video card?
Which other games work ok?

Ok. My problem is the frame rate and the appearance of the water. The frame rates are low and creates a stop motion appearance. The oceans in both the strategic view and tactical view often devolve into a series of hazy lines running left to right that seem to change with the motion of the waves. I have plenty of horse power for the game. Games that run good are Sins of a Solar Empire. HOI3 runs ok. Delayed mouse click response is also a problem for EIC and HOI3 btw.
My system.

I guess the problem is the gfx chip Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD which seems to be poor for gaming. Quick googling reveals this review for example: http://pcgamingcorner.com/wordpress/?p=820

Try to replace the graphics-section of the options.txt with this and see if this does any difference:

Code:
Graphics
{
anisotropic_filtering = 0
antialias_samples = 0
graphic_settings = 3
lighting_texture_quality = 0 %
model_detail = 0
particle_detail = 0
port_characters = 0
portview_2d = 1
loadscreens_2d = 0
render_normalmaps = 0
render_shadowmaps = 0
shadow_detail_level = 0
ship_crew = 0
square_water = 1
texture_detail_level = 0 %
water_detail_level = 0
}
