HELP PLEASE - HoI hangs up when playing and Internet Connection is active

I am officialy desparate.

Everytime I play HoI while not being connected to the Internet it works perfectly. Once I connect to the Internet, it takes about ten to twenty seconds until the PC freezes and I have to reboot.

I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what to do/where I did wrong, because I installed it exactly the way I did before. I had to buy a new HD because my old one broke and reinstall everything.

It´s always the same, I play without being connected to the Internet, and all is fine. Even when I start a game without being connected, then switch to desktop to connect, switch back into the game it takes the aforementioned seconds for the PC to freeze.

HELP!?!?!?!?

My Specs:

Win XP
AMD XP 2000+
512 MB RAM
Norton Anti Virus 2003 (deactivated while playing)
ICQ Lite 4 (sometimes active, sometimes not, doesn´t seem to make a difference)
Direct X 9.0b
GeFORCE 4 MX 460 - Driver 56.72
Sound Nvidia NForce, Driver 4.24
NO firewall, no router.
T-Online DSL 2000

You sure you are not using the XP firewall?

Anyway I think this has more to do with MP stuff and settings, so I will move you there.

Do make sure you have tried the standard stuff first though.
1) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
2) Set the color depth to 16BIT
3) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.

No, only with HoI.
OTOH I don´t play any internet games besides HOI at the moment. Though it hangs up even before I decide to play an internet game. For instance, if I play single player just while having an active internet connection, it hangs up. Playing SP withou being in the Internet works just fine. SIGH
