Help. Resuming savegames in multiplayer?

Hi! When me and a friend played multiplayer over internet IP, we couldn't resume our save games. We both tried to host and all, and we both had the same file, but as soon as anyone clicked on the savegames name in the sceanario list, the game stopped and you had to quit it. I am using the swedish version and he is using the North American version. Greatful for help. Thanks!

do you both have patch 1.04?

if you start a new game, play a month or two and save, can you resume that one?
