Alright, after finally figuring out how to reset the username/password I finally managed to get to Firewall Settings...now I've got two problems:
1) Even shutting down the hardware firewall seems to have no effect on my ability to connect to games in Vnet
2) I think only the people who designed the modem would know how to configure it...all I get when I open manual configuration window is a field with manual rule definitions, separate for inbound and outbound traffic
The basic question is - if shutting down the firewall doesn't help, would manually opening ports (if that is even possible - I'm not at all sure) help? Should I just give up?
EDIT:
Well, isn't this funny? Port forwarding was buried in a separate menu. Talk about user-friendly interfaces. This post is still largely valid, though, since I have no clue if port forwarding is going to help me...
