Welcome to the AARland part of the forums, @john trask . @High Speed Flying Gladius has given you a good start. It really is that basic.

However, I would add one more basic step before trying to post an AAR. I would read some first. Don't be afraid to model yours after ones that you like. I thought I had read enough when I started and I was wrong. I have learned a lot about the way to style an AAR while here. I would recommend the AAR by @High Speed Flying Gladius as a good example. This is a relatively new AAR and it has found readers and acclaim.

Before starting, I would also consult the SolAARium for tips about writing and how to construct an AAR.

Once you have posted your AAR, I would also add the step of advertising it in the Inkwell.

You may also want to interact with other writers in the main part of the AARland forum. And when you feel comfortable, feel free to drop into the bAAR to interact with other writAARs there.

Here's a link that goes over the basics of writing AARs from the SolAARium. Here's another SolAARium thread on starting AARs. Finally, yet another SolAARium posting with a list of tips for new AAR writers. Hope this helps. Good luck to you.

Yea @Chac1 's advice is very good, mine was a bit too tongue-in-cheek to the point of uselesness.

In mine you'll find a variety of styiles done more-or-less decently, but i fully encourage you to ask and look around for one that does one specific style very well and come to your own conclusions about which one you best suits you.

Also, dont be afraid to exeriment and get things wrong, the community here is plenty helpful!

And thanks for the praise @Chac1 , appreciate it as always.

Yes, I will second those remarks. The community is helpful and supportive and that is something to admire, especially these days.

(By the way, you are welcome, @High Speed Flying Gladius .)

Just a postscript: I forgot completely about the fAARq. @coz1 has an excellent post there about starting an AAR.
