So after my most recent game, I thought of starting a new thread - post what seemed like good ideas at the time, but in the long run turned out to be utterly disastrous. To give an example (actually, multiple ones), I'll start.
I was playing King Robb in the Clash of Kings start, and things were going ridiculously well - I captured Lord Tywin in battle, and when Stannis won the throne, the fight became a whole lot easier because every one of his vassals (even Ser Davos!) joined me and abandoned him. Well, long story short, Tywin comes up to me demanding trial by combat, I go, "Hey, he's an old man, I'm Robb Stark, I'll fight him myself." Famous last words.
Now Bran inherits, gets assassinated by Roose Bolton. Now Rickon's the on throne.
Aegon takes King's Landing and becomes King; meanwhile, we're still knocking on the Red Keep, trying to take it. Eventually, we succeed and win our independence - so many Lords had supported us against Stannis, my Kingdom stretches from the Wall all the way down to the walls of King's Landing, as well as a few random Vale counties. After winning the war, I had taken Aegon prisoner, and because he hates me ridiculously, I execute him, so now the Khaleesi inherits.
We have a dual-kingdom system splitting Westeros - King Rickon in the North, the Trident, and half the Crownlands, and Queen Daenerys in the South, with most of the Vale, Dorne, the Stormlands, Casterly Rock, the Reach, etc. Things are going fine, with the sole exception that my vassals don't like me all that much - my guardian did a horrible job.
Dany decides she wants the Riverlands back, and she has dragons, so she wins. My vassals, however, not only don't support me in the war, they defect to the Iron Throne. Long story short - a few years later, and the Stark family holds County of Winterfell, and nothing else - all because I fought Tywin myself and killed Aegon.
