Do you have debug mode on? It might be the error notepad windows.

Yes, please at least show us a screenshot how you found that. Maybe it's Task manager, or notepad: otherwise I can't relate to this bug.

When you're not on ironman mode, you can accidentally open the console with the ~ key. You should normally type debug to be in this mode, but things can happen.

I don't open the console. I have never encountered this error before the latest patch, yet from the launch it's been a constant bug

I don't do anything other than lauch a game, standard vanilla, save and then exit. Then, as you see in the screen shot, HIO4 is still green and still running.
I need to exit from Steam before it shuts down.

Put this bug on hold. I actually managed to exit the game

and now it's back again...

I will try and test if this bug is vanilla related, or if its an issue with a mod

Same issue when running BICE.

Game stays lit green in the Steam shortcut menu, and cannot be launched again. Only after exiting Steam, manually.

This has never been an issue previously

What happens if you try to stop the game from Steam? By clicking the "Play" button which should be now blue and says "Stop"?

Or is it greyed out and says "Stopping"?

I'll try that the next time the game keeps running.

I just saved and exited, and this time round it worked as its supposed to.
