HOI will only run in 800 x 600

I have been playing the game for quite som time on my laptop without any problems. Recently I bought a new desktop computer and on this computer the game will only run in 800 x 600 mode. Every time I try to start up a game from the main menu with a higher resolution I get a CTD.
I am running the Scandinavian version of the game with patch 1.05.

System details:
Windows XP Home Edition 5.1.2600
Intel P4 3.2 Ghz
2 GB RAM
More than 20 GB Free HD Space
ATI RADEON 9800 XT 256 MB Graphics Card (Latest driver version 6.14.10.6430 from 24-02-2004)
DirectX Version 9.0b (4.09.0000.0902)

I do not face similar problems with other games - not even Victoria.

Try renaming the AVI folder to AVI_back
Also set your color depth to 16BIT.

Problem Solved

I tried the changes you recommended and now the game runs in 1280 x 1024 without any problems.
