Crash to desktop after the opening movie

After the movie for peace and war, the game crashes saying, Hearts of iron 2 has crashed. I am on win 7 and i have tried all the compatibility options. I have a dell xps 15, 6 gigs ram, 2.30 quad core cpu, nvida video card. I also have the debug file

I was having the same problem. I know this isn't a permenant solution but it worked for me.
Download RivaTuner and install it. When it opens go to Launcher. Click the green plus icon to add a new item. In the name category type in Doomsday or Hearts of Iron or whatever you want. Set the display mode to 1024x768, the color scheme for low level, and when you get to Associated application just browse for HoI2.exe. Then you just double click the icon to play the game. I have to manually reset my desktop resolution each time I exit the game.
