Paradox split them as a crutch to the AI (as the AI rarely splits the stacks on its own, nor does it factor in attrition ever). Since the AI is too stupid to not destroy itself by attrition, removing the attrition free status on those troops would actually gimp the AI beyond belief. The stack splits would be something for next version though for sure, assuming the AI doesn't just condense it on its' own anyways.
When we are at it, I have been doing some testing about Mongols lately and noticed some strange behavior like:
- even though the events should grant the horde several stacks, they always merge it to one
- sometimes, especially when the count of troops is bigger (like 60k+), the horde AI simply moves the army to a province, then immediately changes its mind, repeating this process ad infinitum and actually losing(!) the initial invasion
- hordes
always follow the pattern 'first Khwarizm (because both of them have capital in it - kind of stupid), then Cumania'...removing the Ilkhanate's ability to attack Cumania (to, you know, make it actually go the way it should) leads to them
county conquesting it! Strangely, removing their ability to attack Khwarizm suddenly makes them a war machine in Persia (though the AI stubbornly persists using County Conquest against Khwarizm after that as well)...the only solution was to remove the County Conquest CB from those who can use the Tribal Invasion
Anyway, I have put up a 'fix' for this behavior if you are interested.
