What are the effects of Hospitals in game? Does the tech unlock buildings that I construct or are hospitals just a research project? Either way I dont understand the effects of hospitals so any help would be great. Thanks:)

There is no hospital building. What the technology does is to increase the (small) proportion of manpower lost in battle that is being returned to the manpower pool.

Trickleback is the rate that manpower returns to the front, to give a real life example:

In Burma, if someone contracted malaria for example, they were taken to hospitals many miles away, and the average time to returning to the front line was 5 months. To put it in perspective, for each man wounded needing hospital treatment, there were 7 from sickness.

In 1943, General Slim organised for hospitals to be much nearer the front line, and reduced the turnaround from 5 months to just 3 weeks. This had the added benefit of fewer people contracting such as malaria, because people weren't taking precautions on purpose as it got them out of the battles for 5 months. For 3 weeks, it was no longer worth it, so they took the correct precautions.

The game doesn't fully accurately represent this, as of course it would be much more marked in theatres such as Burma, however, as an 'across the board' type tech it quite accurately represents this.

So if I research hospitals, my strength losses will be replaced faster? Is this both for attrition and combat losses?

In game, how important are hospitals to research, and do they provide enough benefit for the cost? Thanks:)

No, as far as I can tell the effect is only that a larger portion of the manpower lost in battle is returned to the manpower pool. The repair speed of units is not affected by hospital techs (there are other techs affecting this). Don't know if manpower lost from attrition is affected.

I don't know, I haven't done the math. But if you're short on manpower the tech should be pretty useful.

Thanks guys i never known about it before

I'm not sure but the higher hospital tech you have the least men you lost cause by bad weather (rather important when fighting in Russia)

+2 I really never researched this tech but know my mind is changed.

Gonna try it now :D
lol I am not even joking.
China can get 9999 manpower in around 5 year (more or less) at 1936 game start. SO if you rush the agriculture and hospital techs, then you could get infinite manpower. So just produce 99 serial infantry and invade the world!

I haven't played in a while, but I read in the manual that there is a max manpower limit that is calculated by adding up the total manpower numbers of all your national provinces. Is this still true that there is a max manpower level and if so how is it calculated? Thanks:cool:

Are there also caps on the total resources that a country (non-puppet) can have?

Is the manpower and resource caps at very high levels like 9999 etc? The manual made it sound like the manpower caps was lower and that once reached, any manpower you receive does not get added past the cap. If it is very very high like 9999, then I dont have to worry.

Are there caps for puppets in terms of manpower and resources? The manual or the wiki says the caps are 1000, and that the rest goes to the puppet master. Does manpower go to the puppet master as well or can puppets have 9999 manpower?

It would help to know because I am planning to play a game as Manchucko (Japans Puppet) in the near future. It would also be cool and historically correct if Puppet Masters got manpower through their puppets.

puppets give manpower in the terms that they build their own units. YOu can then either A) buy their units or B) take mil control of their army. I like using puppet troops to watch beaches and to provide bulk infantry to help hold secondary fronts.
