Hot Peace (1947 - )

(( This is the result of several edits to the savegame and a few events I made, along with nearly nine years of gameplay from the 1938 scenario. ))

The British Empire has been overrun. What few units the British had were starving, poorly supplied, and underpaid and confined to Indochina. Not that the British were lacking in funds, they already entrusted much of their reserves to the Federal Reserve. No, they had no factories and fewer trucks. What few trucks they had were prone to breaking down. They did receive much from lend lease, but they didn't have many roads either to transport it.

After a nazi coup of South Africa, the conquest of Bermuda, and additional fears of Germany overrunning the Pacific, Truman began pushing for the United Nations to become the United Nation. On May 1st, it was so.

But it wasn't until December 17, 1947 that the nations of Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Britain, and the United States were fully united. Their armies fully integrated ((for some reason inherit doesn't quite work as well when it isn't Germany annexing Austria )), and even Montgomery was in "American" uniform. Now a true juggernaut is capable of toppling Germany, twice the manpower growth, nearly the same industrial output as the German Reich. But the sealanes remain firmly in the hands of German carrier groups, but German doctrine focuses on sub war.


Meanwhile in Latin America, Germany has come to the defense of Brazil, an unusual event. Throughout the Second World War, minor allies were poorly or not defended. Nationalist China was overrun by the United States, Poland by Germany, and Nationalist Spain by the French. Despite Franco's pleas in '42, the Germans were unwilling to commit to a costly breakthrough operation into Northern France until well after the conquest of Spain and the the de facto creation of a neutral Republican rump state, partly since the new panzergrenadier divisions were considered to be superweapons.


Speer has intensified the industrial output of the Reich, but potentially it's fall as well by some estimates, there are only two years left of rare materials to sustain full production. There is some discussion on having a laissez faire minister in control.





And so begins the Hot Peace. All is quiet in the world.

((Minor note, I'm playing Germany, but I will load the USA from time to time to show their perspective. I'm planning on accomplishing with this AAR a focus on alternate history politics, as opposed to military campaigns. The campaigns are largely over.))

The Reich continues to attempt to stabilize the front lines and solidify their holdings. But the Americans will continue to apply pressure. They launch an invasion from their bases in the Canary Islands (plans are drawn up to end this threat to mainland Europe once and for all). Within a month the invaders surrender to German reinforcements, adding thousands more to Stalags across Europe.


The war in Brazil bleeds both sides, the jungle warfare a difficult attrition campaign. While German naval superiority continues to hold against the tattered remains of the American fleet, the US bafflingly is making the better use of submarines, a less focused upon aspect of American doctrine.

(this was a carrier battlegroup versus a submarine, and two heavy submarine battle. I didn't see how it ended, but I'm guessing mild to heavy damage)
Any carrier vs. carrier battle so far has resulted in German victory, mainly due to German technology. But the Americans continue to produce new carriers. The Germans are not about to be left behind either, with three carriers in production, two of which are on accelerated production. Old carriers are being phased out to escort carrier duty.

Krupp is appointed Armaments Minister, while Goebbels becomes head of security and of foreign affairs.

A proposal is passed around the General Staff, to build corps of light armor-air cavalry-air cavalry divisions. While air cavalry remains a research project, it has been remembered that the best supplied divisions in the Russian campaign of 1940 was light armor, making such a force ideal for the unending "peripheral conflicts" to come. Any light armor divisions that was existence however was built pre-1938 and were scrapped after the successful conquest of the middle east.

The German intelligence services have been ordered to detail the results and benefits of funding partisans and propaganda. Propaganda appears to spread greatly, but is less useful and less permanent. Partisans are far more permanent, by some estimates their operations will continue for at least a decade, however they operate throughout a region, raising ire with both the Japanese and Brazilians, as we fund rebels in US occupied zones in Brazil and China.

((on a minor note, Italy has declared war on the US early 1948, and as a result South Africa declared war on Italy, and so I added Italy to the Axis. There was a minor US invasion of Italian East Africa which I later destroyed. Hard getting used to screenshoting and documenting everything. No signs yet of Montgomery actually being used by the US.))

In the United Nations, there has been growing unrest between Southern whites working in Northern factories alongside negroes and Indian refugees, with the occasional strike or riot occuring. HUAC has placed the blame directly on Axis spies operating within the United States. Nazi-backed rebel groups have lead to martial law being declared in California and New York, with insurgency on the rise in occupied China and the Midwest as well. ((I prefer fund partisan to smear campaign anyway, although I alternate for realism))

American combat troops continue to slog through India. The war department continues to expand desegregation efforts.

Orwell has published the "Last Man Free." The book details a world gripped in a perpetual peace where spies and proxy states fight the wars between three nations, where wartime-like fears have turned the world into dictatorships funding dictatorships. It ends with the protagonist joining in acts of oppression, to support his family. Surprisingly it was not censored.

There has been debate within Congress on whether or not to intervene in the Soviet-Japanese War, including the supply of materials and trucks. Soviet industry amounts to 140 as compared to Japan's 160. The Japanese continue their steady advance into Siberia. The main difficulty would be transporting materials to the Soviet Union, as the transport capacity of Dikson isn't particularly great.

The war continues.
