(Note: This follows my new game i just started, this might be a very short AAR if i die out quickly. Using the Standard Stamford Bridge start.)
The year is 1066, and the world of Eadric Aelfricson is at war. The king is dead, and his fellow Saxon lord Harold has laid (rightful) claim o the kingdom of England. However the King of norway, and a Bastard out of Normandy have all have claims to the throne and are willing to fight for it. However, Eadric has also some pressing concerns. No wife, No Heir, and and to say his place in noble society is precarious is a understatement.
Before he goes to war, he needs to get married. So he sends out his servants to ask politely in possible matches. Sadly, a unknown Earl in Saxon England is not a "Great Catch" for the likes of princesses or duchies. However, there is some hope in my neighbor in Wales.
Not the most impressive, but does bring in her father, who is a powerful duke, and would give me a nice boost in prestige. This is the best match his matchmakers can be found.
The war rages on, once my main force runs into the retreating Army of Norway, it does not end well, as one would expect 120 troops vs. thousands. However the King is doing somewhat well, Norway is being beaten back, but the Normans are moving forward with a army of almost 12k men. Faced with little to do, he spends time with his wife. Good news in the Gloomy war arrives in July 14 of 1067.
By October the war is much clearer on how it will turn out. Eadric Aelfricson sally forth with his limited men to deal with Norwegian raiding parties as the war grows grim towards the Normans. The Normans have defeated King Herold in Open Battle, crushing them would be the more precise term. There is talk that the war is not that the Bastard Duke will win, but what are the term. While unable to aid his king in the doomed battle, Eadric Aelfricson chasing a Norwegian raiding party, when he comes across the same party, reinforced by more troops, and willing to take a stand. Thus began the battle of Wiltshire.
The Battle of Wiltshire was not a major battle of the war, but showed great skill, as approx 150 men on each side battled, however the Norwegians moral wavered and broke when the Saxons gave there cry ""Olicrosse!" and charged. The Norwegian lines broke, and the battle was won. While going over the battle, great news arrived.
The Duke was found under his horse, which startled when hearing the battle cry, leg falling into a hole, and falling on top of the Duke. But most depressing, the Duke was unable to pay the ransom of 145 Gold for his release.
Then he spent years waiting as larger groups battle, though in February 1069, he received news that his wife is once again expecting.
