I'm really confused on how to access the adoptionist event, it seems very specific. Like what are the requirements for it? Can someone help me with the steps to unlock adoptionism?

That's my baby, so certainly can! You need to start in Iberia or Aquitaine in 867 (you can move there too, but it's easiest to start there so that the AI doesn't get the event, since the title'll wait for a player to match the requirements if there's one in the region), and match the following:
  1. Have the Pope as your HoF.
  2. Be physically capable (so generally healthy & not have infirm or incapable).
  3. Not hold c_lyon.
  4. Have one of:
    1. Scholar.
    2. Theologian.
    3. Mystic.
    4. 18+ learning and be on any learning lifestyle track.
... and all of this before the year 880.1.1. There's some other minor stuff too, but that should basically do ye.

:) The specificity is deliberate; it was an experiment to see how folks'd take buried historic Easter egg content, so he's intended to be something you don't get every game but something you might run into organically if you're playing a nerdy character in the right region of the map. As it turns out, with a bit of a "meh", sadly, but c'est la vie. It's not really turned me off of making more obscured content every now and then, but I'll probably not bury it quite so deep next time. Orrrr I will but won't make it an elaborate event chain.

which county is c_lyon, is that leon in brittany or leon in spain. Also which ruler do you recommend me to start as for it, or should I make a custom ruler with 18 learning?

It's Lyon in Viennois, Burgundy, according to the wiki.

Anyways I finally did it, I got adoptionism, the interesting thing I started as a catalan count in the middle of iberia but was almost conquered by asturias, so i conquered mallorca to seek refuge there to grow my adoptionist heresy.

Here is an image for context. the image is very big because it is a screenshot on a full HD monitor

I have no problem with the Easter egg nature to get the event. It's definitely one I look forward to doing (after a friend brought it up, I originally tried doing it in Lyon before looking up the full requirements lol)

But I do wish the Adoptionist faith (and the Basque faith) wasn't blocked from the ruler designer. Even if this means the spawning event needs to be disabled or changed if the player does this. As sometimes you just want a simple game where you have a holy site in Lyon without having to jump through a bunch of hoops (or want to RP the Basque faith never having died down).

Though ultimately a minor complaint. And one I'd take over Adoptionists not being in the game.

Edit: clarity

My only issue with Adoptionism is that it's maybe a little too hard to trigger, and AFAIK it doesn't qualify for the Andalusian Inquisition achievement. For the amount of work that goes into converting to it and then spreading it across Iberia, I wish it did.

I just tried the event right now upon reading this thread (taking the mystic trait AND having 18 learning makes it fire Day1) and apparent it trades Religious Law for Sanctioned False Conversion so it doesn't turn Decietful into a virtue(Unlike Sacred Lies). It's a bit of a problem because Felicitous School is supposed to enable Intrigue playstyles because Honest is still a Virtue.

Did they change Sanctioned False Conversion? I swear it used to have Deceitful as a virtue.

I tried to do this as Charles the Bald by putting my capital into aquitaine but the Monk did not come despite a full learning tree.
