How come TOMMY takes credit for my games?

Not that there's a lot to take credit for

When I quit a game (after saving) and when I reload, the game claims that TOMMY is playing MY country

Where does this come from and how do I change it?

A file search reveals that there is a config file (eucongfig.something?) that contains the text TOMMY, but it is a binary file and does not appear to be meant to be changed.

Btw, who is TOMMY?

TOMMY is a name of your computer... and EU uses computer name as default name... hell, mine was EY7677YU or something like that.

In the main manu, click on multiplayer, you can change your name from there.

If I click on multiplayer - do I just set the name and go back or will I have to play the game (alone) in simulated multiplayer mode? What if I do, is it any different from singleplayer mode?

You've got that right... It harkens back to the time when we mere owners of a PC actually had the right to name them, instead of the ISP... In my case I was Lord CS981415-C... That (alas, along with the rest of the MP end of the game ) is is perhaps the weakest area of the game...
