In my current game I was very successful so far, advancing from Count of St. Gallen to Duke of Venecia and now King of Leon (the spanish kingdoms all fell to the Moors and a german crusade towards Burgos found me in posession of that lands).

However I´m spread very thin across the map and the biggest roadblock in my recreation of the Kingdom of Castille is the Pope. He has been very active and taken not only southern Sicily but the whole of southern Spain:

Currently he is at war with the nearly gone Duchy of Porto over claims on Caceres and I fear that they soon will be vanquished too.

Normally I would re-load as some other country and simply have them declare war, but how do I get the pope some wars to deplete his 9000+ army in southern Spain to save Porto and get my claims?

War entries in the save-game look like this

Code:
 war = {
        id = { type = 4712 id = 380248 }
        type = 1
        startdate = { year = 1130 month = august day = 2 }
        attacker = { type = 4712 id = 19714 }
        defender = { type = 4712 id = 42850 }
        }

Wars must have an unique ID, in this case it is 380248

And the numbers 19714 and 42850 are the character-ID's of the rulers who are at war with each other.

Alternatively, just load up the game as France and declare war on him. Save, load as Germany, declare war too, save again. Repeat with as many countries as you like. :D

But they have no claims? Oh wait - I could simply load as France, claim one of his minor provinces and then declare war. Seems that I lose sight of the simple solutions while pondering difficult tasks :D

Thankyou for the idea :)

If he has no claims, then he is not going to relieve the pope of any of his provinces and will probably peace out for 5 gold after a few months.

You will want to grab a few claims for each of the kings that you plunge into war against the pope. Optimally these should be claims on provinces near the Kings' realms, and not the ones that you (Leon) want ;)
