I am currently playing russia in GC and am facing following question.
As far as I remember the rules say, that you get a settler per year for being orthodox, and I can remember the computer showing me this, once i get some harbour.
So is this a bug, or dom I have a memory leak?

And yes I know, that I can conquer Ingermanland or another harbour to get the settlers, but thats not what I ask.

Try pointing the cursor over the number of colonist on the top left of the screen and wait. That should give you a breakdown of the calculation.

Uhm... nice province. I
think I'll take it.

As Russia, you start getting one settler a year for being Orthodox as soon as you gain a harbor. At some point, you will also get your country-specific 'colonial dynamism' , which will give you 4 (?) additional settlers each year.

Why do I need the harbour at all to get the plus one settler.
Does this mean, that as a catholic country you don't get setllers at all
unless you have colonial dynamism?
I thought it would be 1 for orthodox and 1 for harbour, so one without a harbour.

I think you need to have access to sea (i.e. a harbor, a grey anchor -- not all provinces located next to a sea have one, e.g. Kola and Arkangelsk in Russia don't) to get *any* colonists. Once you get that harbor, you get the normal colonists you get due to your religion and possible country-specific colonial dynamism.

I think you're thinking of a shipyard (a golden anchor) -- your first shipyard gives you one extra settler per year. You need to have a fairly high naval technology level to build one, and it's expensive; some lucky countries like Venice [in Ragusa] get one for free at the start of the game, though.)

As a catholic country, if you don't have colonial dynamism, your colonialization attempts will be seriously limited. You can get that one settler per year if you build a shipyard, and if you join the counter-reformed movement, you get one settler a year, but only for a limited time period (between Trent and the Edict of Tolerance).
