So I have a beta key... but what do I do with it?

Delete all local content of KA II you have on your rig right now - do it through Steam (Library/KAII - right-click and choose Delete local content)
Create a new steam account (or if you already have more use an account where KA II is not activated yet).
Games/Activate a product on Steam
Enter the code, download the Beta build. It is very important to delete all already existing KA II content from your computer before you do that!
And please use the Beta Forum for any beta related issues.

Thank you - I didn't know I needed a fresh Steam account. It is downloading now.
There is a small error in the notification email for the Beta - the link to the KA2 beta forums actually points to the Warlock Master of the Arcane Beta. This only mattered because the KA2 beta forum doesn't show up if you're not logged in (I don't think) so I couldn't find it at all

But after logging in you were able to get into the Beta Forum, right?

Suppose I did not start a new steam account and I did not delete the prologue before installing the beta what happens then?

The link in that email goes to the wrong forum, one you can't access... you can get to the right one manually as long as you're logged in to the Paradox site. You should see it down the bottom under Private Forums.

Don't know - before I created a second account for this, I couldn't download the Beta at all... Could you?
You should have been told in the Beta email to use a different Steam account but from what you say (some of you also copied the email text so we can see) it seems you were not.
