Im playing as the byzantine empire and i've mended the schism in favour of orthodoxy and now am looking to change to hellenic before i create the roman empire. I've gotten the mystic courtier show up, took about 3 game years for that to happen, but now 10 years later i havent gotten any option to learn his secrets so i can convert. Is this something that just takes a very long time or is it possible to screw it up somehow?

I believe your character needs a specific trait as well (cynical?) for it to fire. Their presence in your court doesn't suffice alone

The intrigue annotaion to actually change says i need to either be cynical or a mystic. I'm already a mystic so its not blocking me on that. I just need to either have a leige who is hellenic already or be taught by a mystic the secrets of the ancients. It says nothing else on the subject. Are you saying the mystic in my court wont teach me unless im cynical?

I don't really know much more than you do about the event(s) in question so other than the trait requirements (which you are fine on).

Its possible, i dont remember the name the event gave me, so i cant prove it wrong. All i can say is that there is a man with the mystic trait in my court still. If he does die is that it? will i get the event again or do i have to force it with console commands?

As far as I remember from glancing at the files, you can get a new mystic every ten years.

Have you checked if the guy with the mystic trait has the right religion? If not, he's not your guy.
