Without revealing too much, secret tech are special units all races can require??
From what I understand it's similar to class in AOW3, so you choose a starting race and a secret tech.
And you get research and units from it.
I believe these are what was previously spoiled as the assembly, now apperantly called spacers. Names of not officially revealed factions are subject to change.

They're called Spacer Pirates so a minor faction?
Secret Tech are probably a mix of spheres from AOW2 and Classes from AOW3. You will probably be able to take multiple ones, but doing so limits your power level in each.
