So I've tried to apply the metallic texture to a custom COA bmp I had made but so far unsuccessfully. I use Paint Shop Pro. I go as far as:

Effects\Texture Effects\Texture - which opens a box with the texture in question and various variables to fiddle with (size, smoothness, depth) and when I click OK to apply it - there is a slight difference but I don't get the curved shiny look I should. There must be some steps I'm missing... Could it be related to the layers ? I've tried 'de-layerizing' the bmp in question but I'm really not a graphic artist so... Could anyone provide a step by step tutorial ?

I don't have Paint Ship Pro, however I've managed to apply metaltexure with GIMP!

1) Download this template
http://files.upl.silentwhisper.net/upload9/metaltexture.zip
2) Open a .bmp image(128*128)
metallic_GIMPa.PNG

3) Open "Layer, channel&Pass"
metallic_GIMPb.PNG

metallic_GIMPb1.PNG

4) Open "mataltexture.psd"
metallic_GIMPc.PNG

5) Copy&Paste 4) to 2)
metallic_GIMPd.PNG

6) Change this..., sorry I don't know what to say in English Ver :(
metallic_GIMPe.PNG

Look at these images - left: with GIMP, right: with PhotoShop.
There is no difference!
metallic_GIMP.bmp
Metallic_PS.bmp

P.S. I use GIMP Ver1.2.5. And Sorry, my GIMP is Japanese-languaged. :(

Here's a link to some sample for PsP ive made a few time ago (cant find where I originally posted it myself I must admit but its a pspimage file with all used color codes ready to pick). If metallic texture is what you are looking for of course, just have to change bottom layers to something you want. Then save as a bmp which will flatten all layers to visible image.

PSPImage Sample

@Gratianus
About flat metallic texture (your request in my mod thread), I'm afraid I didnt save original texture (yeah I know, but really cant find it on my HD right now so I guess I just didnt) so I have no quick answer to your post. However I'm actually trying to correct the lightning (result isnt that good) or find a beta file (not as easy as it sounds hehe) or ultimately redo something like that but it may look a bit different of course.

I think i can help you, as for me it was very simple. I'm using Photoshop CS2 and made this just a few moments ago.

I simply downloaded the texture in Gratianus' link above, then opened it in Photoshop. I then deleted the 3 layers under the Metal Overlay (If your layer window isnt open, you can access it under Window, or press F7)

I then loaded an image i found on a helraldry site, and moved it into the window as the Metal Overlay. Then after you set the Metal Overlay as the Top Layer, you should get the desired metalic look.

i hope that helps. :)

flowing_spaz gave us an answer. :)
1) Open a bmp image 2) and metaltexture.
metal_PSa.PNG

3) Copy&Paste the bmp image to metaltexture.
metal_PSb.PNG

4) Drag Metal Overlay to the top!

No quick answer, different of course - no problem.
I'm waiting without haste. :)
Thank you very much!!

I understand all that. But what kind of light do you use? I see you changed it to something, and it's not normal, that would make you only see the metal texture and not the picture behind it.

I changed hardlight(correct spelling?) to the picture bellow (I don't know in English).
Because once I tried this template, the texture din't take proper effect in my way.

Not exactly what I had in mind - it's just a picture pasted on top of another - there's no blending...

Why is this shit so complicated ?!

G.
It's the easiest way it can get. You just copy the other picture into the template and swap the template over it. Then it will look metallic.

I've tried Paint Shop Pro X Trial. ;)
PSP1.PNG

1) Download the mextaltexture.
http://hayasoft.com/hiko/paradox/other/source/up1122.zip
2) Copy your bmp image.
PSP2.PNG

3) Paste 2) into metaltexture and "Paste as new layer"
PSP3.PNG

4) Done!

you have to make sure the metallic layer is the Very Top Layer or else you will not get the mettalic look. If you've already tried this and it doesnt work, im lost. But from what you just said it sounds like your metallic layer isnt on top

Adding Metalic Texture in 17 easy steps (With pictures).

Here is the step-by-step solution of adding metalic template.

1.Download the newest version of GIMP!

2.Chose the CoA you wish to edit (to add a metalic look)

3.Open it with MS Paint (you have it in your start/programs/accessories )

4.Save it as 24-bit bitmap (use save as)

5.Now download the metaltexture2.psd Gratianus gave us.

6.Open your GIMP!

Opened GIMP!

7.Go to File/Open and chose the CoA you previosly saved as 24-bit bitmap.

8.Again go to File/Open and open metaltexture2.psd

Opened CoA and MetalTexture

9.Pres CTRL+L and that will open Layer meny.

Layers meny opened

10.Click on the Layers meny and then on Metal Overlay (you simply can't miss it)

Clicking on Metal Overlay

11.Press CTRL+C

12.Click on the CoA picture opened in GIMP and you will see the Layer meny changing into a new picture (the one you clicked on).

Layers for Coa

13.Click on the picture showed inside the Layers meny, and press CTRL+P. This should paste Metal Overlay on your CoA.

Pasted

14.Above this you sholud see droping meny named "Mode";Select it and chose Multiply.(doesn't matter if it seems to be gray, just do it) The CoA should now get the texture applied.

Clicking the Multuply

After selecting the multiply

15.In the lower edge of Layers meny should be the symbol of Anchor.Click it.

Selecting an anchor

16.Go to your picture opened in GIMP! again.Go to File/Save.Your CoA is now saved and will be in metalic look now.

17.Enjoy the game. :)
