With CK3 just around the corner, now seems like as good a time as any to ask this. I've had an idea for a total conversion mod for awhile now, which is all fine and dandy, but a mod needs to be made and while I could do it myself, It's a lot of work for one person and I struggle in a few areas. So to finally get to the topic of this post, many mods out there are made by a group of people rather than just one, a mod team. so my question is how does one assemble a mod team? my first assumption is that a group of friends get to gather to mod the game, but I lack friends who even play the game let alone those who want to mod it. do you just simply ask? it just seems so informal, like a shot in the dark, but then again that's why I'm asking. How does one assemble a mod team?

Expose your idea (in both ck2 and ck3 modding sections, official discord too I'd say) and try to assemble people around from it, and of course, involve yourself in the modding process and lead the team.
Most teams or modding projects started as a one person project.

Just shout: "MOD TEAM... ASSEMBLE!!!!"

Build it and they will come.

Post an alpha version of your mod and you will see if someone is interested on working with you, the problem is that even good mods struggle to have enough people working on them.

In all seriousness - think very carefully about such an undertaking. A total conversion mod is a very serious project which requires huge amounts of time and dedication. I've put hundreds of hours into my own mod over the years, and really all it does is fix database files and add new characters and coats of arms. For me, that's enough.

A total conversion requires some serious dedication, not to mention getting over the mental hurdle of 'okay, so I want to change everything'.

Yeah, that makes sense. I guess I was checking to see if there was any sort of culture around it so to speak. Also yeah, I was planning to try to postpone making this a multiple person project till I at least had the map present, but the map projection I've chosen has made the creation of a heightmap a little awkward than I might be able to handle.

Yeah, my trouble is that my ideas are to ambitious for my own good. Partially why I wanted to keep this a one man project for so long is that if it ever proved to be too much I could just drop it and not have to worry about quitting on anyone, but of course you cant go through life not committing to anything. I'll have plenty of time to think it through though, My plan right now is to wait for CK3 and play it so I can get a feel for it's gameplay and finally choose if this is going to be a CK2 or CK3 mod.

1) You need to have good leadership skills. The better the mod, the better and brighter the contributors, the better your leadership must be in order to lead everyone in the same direction and manage the egos of everyone.
2) You need to have good management skills.
3) You need to find other people developing their mods in ways that complement the vision for your mod and convince them to integrate their work in yours while showing them how the sum of its parts is smaller than the whole they will be contributing for.
4) Do not expect anything from people that have not modded anything before. I would say one in twenty of such people will be of consequence to your efforts.

That pretty much sums it up but it is much easier writing it than doing it.

Good luck on your project!
