When multiple armies are selected, it takes several ESCAPE presses to deselect all of them. Previously pressing ESCAPE once deselected all armies, I reinstalled the game and this behavior is gone, how can I get it back?

Reset the shortcut for the close button of individual regiments as 'v' or anything else you'd like, and you'll be able to close the larger army UI with esc again.
