Hi guys

Is it possibile to get the pope to crown my ruler if not the holy roman empire.

My current ruler reigns over hungary, wallachia (kingdom titles) and most of Crimea lands, which crown i will usurp sonn.

So my king is a very powerful ruler in crhistian world (in special because HRE is broken) and it would be very reasonable to get the pope to make crown me.

Is it possbile

In the previous version, I did get crowned by Pope as the King of Sicily (the Pope was a relative, I don't know if that has any effect) but it doesn't give any benefit over normal crowning unless one is the HRE or Carolingian Emperor as far as I know.

Rylock,
if that's the case it doesn't sound right to me. it was a big deal at the time, no?
perhaps consider adding something like "crowned by holy father +5" to all vassals -- at the very least add it to temple vassals?

It was : In the West, being personally crowned by the Pope pretty much meant that you were, according to one of the most influential person in Europe, the rightful heir of the Roman Empire (Something that would continue way after the Middle Ages. Hell, Napoleon of all people would end up crowned by the Pope...)

This is part of the reason why the Byzantine Emperor was so pissed about Charlemagne's coronation. To be fair though, the Pope was basically saying to the people loyal to the latin scripture that the Byzantine Emperor, his family and his title were all a sham and that a Frankish barbarian (I might be mistaken but I do think Charlemagne didn't know how to read and count...) was the worthy successor of the highly respected Roman Empire (Roman nostalgia was big during those times, afterall...)

(I might be mistaken but I do think Charlemagne didn't know how to read and count...)

I'm pretty sure Charlemagne knew how to read and count.

As I understand he was illiterate, even though he made attempts to learn how to write. Still, the biggest issue is the Pope deciding that he now has the authority to crown a new Roman Emperor...implying the Emperor who's still sitting in Constantinople is an imposter.

IIRC the Pope did not recognise Empress Irene as legitimate Empress and that was one of the reasons for the coronation of Charlemagne in 800 AD.

Charlemagne was probably able to read but was not ( according to Einhard's Vita Karoli Magni) able to write, though he often stayed up at night practicing his letters with a stylus and tablet which he kept under his pillow.

Somehow the image of the 800AD Frankish Warlord staying up all night doing homework seems amusing.

From Einhard: "He also tried to write, and used to keep tablets and blanks in bed under his pillow, that at leisure hours he might accustom his hand to form the letters; however, as he did not begin his efforts in due season, but late in life, they met with ill success."

I've had the Pope "crown" my ruler (king-level) during the Hold Coronation Event. Soon after activating the event (and pay the fee), various bishops will offer to perform the coronation. Often the Pope would be first in line to do it, especially if he likes your character. Other than a relation boost with the Pope (or any bishop chosen), nothing else special occurs.

This would be good to reward players who get their relatives into the papacy?

Oh yes I remember old small palm tablets - they indeed needed a stylus to write on screen. Obviously in Charlemagne's time touch controls weren't invented yet, so it's plausible he practiced with a stylus.

I really hope Rylock adds this one day for immersion :)

"Crowned by the Pope" is a trait that's specific to the HRE and Carolingian Empire, as I've already said. I am not implementing it to be used by others. Keep asking for it and I'll just restrict the Pope from being eligible for the coronation system elsewhere.
