One thing you can do is support everything the Warsaw Pact does and condem all actions of NATO. Also, you can keep an eye on the influences of your theater by hovering your mouse over the little world looking thing at the top left of the mini-map. If your theater is tipping mostly to one side, chances are you will join them, ...eventually.
