I agree with the removal of the Royalists from the ICG to help the feeble England AI.

But, suppose I want to play as England and I'm a masochist and I want to have to deal with a Royalist revolt in my game. What do I have to edit to put the Royalists back into the game? Is it as simple as just not changing 'Royalists' to 'Serbia' in the Config/Text file? (It surely can't be THAT easy.) What else do I have to edit? Will it royally mess up anything else - except no Serbian revolters?

Thanks.

OK. I've compared the flies from 1.5e with 1.7c and found these differences concerning the Royalists. Would this work?

The DB/Monarchs file in 1.7c contains a list of Serbian monarchs. 1.5e contains no Monarchs file for Royalists. I assume I could simply delete this file from 1.7c.

The DB/Building Costs files are different for the Royalists between the two versions. I assume I could replace the 1.7c Royalist entry with the 1.5e entry.

The DB/DiplomticMatrix file is different for the Royalists between the two versions. I assume I could replace the 1.7c Royalist entry with the 1.5e entry.

The DB/Revolt files are different. I assume I could just replace the 1.7c version with the 1.5e version.

The Flags and Shields are different. I assume I could just replace the 1.7c versions with those from the original EU files.

Would this work? (In addition to not changing 'Royalists' to 'Serbia' in the Config/Text file.)

Inspired by my first editing venture (and determined to tempt fate and crash my game), I'm thinking now that I really miss those spunky Serbian rebels. Which leads to my question: Why was it necessary to substitute one for the other in 1.7c? Are there a limited number of tags available so if you add one you have to remove another? If I wanted to put Serbia back into my game, could I just add them or do I have to kill off some other country? I assume the latter, so any suggestions for candidates?

And, Hartmann, you're a very patient man. Here 1.7c was out for an hour or so, and I'm asking how to change it. Thanks. :) :)

Thanks. Figured as much. I've though about killing off the Nubians, but it's probably not worth the effort for my England game. The Serbs will just have to wait until I play the regular 1.7c.

By the way, I agree with dropping the Royalists for AI reasons. The AI plays England poorly enough already. But, I think it's important to keep them in a player-as-England game. Given the EU game model, the Royalists are the only way to represent the King vs. Parliament schism that is such a unique episode in English history. Though it had religious overtones, which the game models nicely, it was more fundamentally political and hence important to retain, at least in a player game.
