What is an OOS?
Out-of-Sync or OOS refers to a multiplayer game where the host and clients games get differing states. E.g. Maybe the host’s game thinks a trade route is level 4 but the client thinks it’s level 5. This difference forces the multiplayer session to stop.
What can you do to help us analyze or diagnose a problem?
If you run into an OOS while playing multiplayer, you can help us find the problem by filing a bug report about what happened. In this report we will need you to provide the OOS folders that get generated when your game goes out of sync.
Importantly, we need the OOS folders from both the host and whichever client went out of sync. When a game goes out of sync, the error message will display which client it happened to.
The OOS folders both from the host and from the clients can be found in \Documents\Paradox Interactive\Victoria 3\oos or equivalent for your operating system. The folders tend to have names with a series of seemingly random numbers and letters, an underscore and then a code for the type of OOS. So an example would be: 2941a65fe61b69fb_5. The first series of characters is the ID for the OOS and it should match between client and host within the same OOS.
If possible, on top of the logs we would also greatly appreciate it if you could provide us with a save file from before the game goes out of sync as well as general information about your session. Were you running any mods? How many players were in the session? Were you or the other players doing something in particular when the game went out of sync? If you have specific steps to reproduce the OOS everytime, that is even better.
Why do we need you to upload the OOS folders?
OOS tracking is all about finding out when and why the gamestates start diverging between players. In order to fix this we need the OOS folders, both from the host and from the clients that went OOS to be able to see what the difference was. That is why we rely on you to help us figure it out and make your playing experience better.
Thank you for taking time to make our game better!
