How to use an item outside combat?

Is there any way to use an item (first aid kit) outside combat? I have no passive healing (i guess because high difficulty level) and i am trying the achivement "lone wolf", so no more crew members, and it is really difficult to start every combat with only a few HP just because i cannot heal outside combat.

On PC if you right click on your gang member a wheel comes up with a number of options. If the gang member is equipped with medicinal items you should be able to click on this to use it.
