i copyed/modified this from a few of my threads in the stonyroad.de forum (you should post your questions about hsr there cause noone seems to use this forum..)

yeah gröfatz is really hard..
im writing some basics 4 some of you who are so desperate to read this...

(playing hoi2 1.02/hsr2.04 germany gröfatz/furious)
prewar is the most important part..
you need to instantly (best 0:00 second day) occupy the rheinland and make good trade connections.
mostly trade coal in the beginning - if your quick you get a really good deal with rumania ~20 oil for ~18 coal.. and also good deals for iron/supps with yugo/hun.
(dont underestimate the need for oil/manpower - it gets eaten up quickly in wartimes)
another good trade strategy is to deal between several countrys.
f.ex. get supplys for coal where its cheap and exchange the supplies for other stuff u need (f.ex. for oil/metal-italy, metal-sweden or rare mats-finland.. dont forget to get some money f.ex. from bulgaria/swiss).
make sure you cancel existing trade agrements (except soviet "all in 1" which is good) before 0:00 or you may not get as good deals.
try to get your ministers ready 4 industry build up. ic, industrial research is important.
focus on industrial research the first years and build factorys (10+ are possible with good trades).
also slide an inch to hawk lobby.
this should get you going for a while..
i usually dont build an army till 38 - except some units that need time (f.ex. ships).
you should also try to get some allys soon.. i prefer hungary first (36) then bulgaria(37) and romania (after change of gov in 38 -low chance ~40 at 200 relations but works).
other possible early allys are yugos -but its best to conquer them- and spain/port. (spain will get pretty powerfull with tech exchange so dont ally with them if you want the game to be hard)
i dont ally with austria cause the divs you get are allready upgraded in the new hsr. (and money is short at harder difficulty levels)
with your new ally/s you can trade some tech for resources to ballance industry usage. (so no need to panic if some of your resource pool slowly shrinks)
i only assume military control over hun/slo (minors).. its against the house rules but the ai is just to stupid..
by 38/anschluss i begin to build up my army and slide an inch to standing army (hawk lobby will increase by events.)
i try to match minister changes with events which degrease dissent (anschluss/czech)
czech event is good to do a change in industry minister (manpower) and maybe armament minister.
i try to stick with the historical events and begin war with poland at danzig event.
updating your army before war is waste of resources cause you will need far less in war..
at war (poland):
make sure you dont get over command (stacking) penalty (your panzer leaders should be promoted to 6/12 even if they only control 3 divs directly.)
try to attack with high level commanders from various provinces. f.ex. i try to focus on bydgoszcz and cracow first.
(cracow from 3 german provinces with 3x1 inf(mountain)+ and support from slovakia and hungarian forces - for bydgoszcz i take 3 panzer generals (18 divs max or more with hq) from the 3 surrounding provinces (elbin, küstrin, stettin).
then try to drive your panzers as far as you get behind enemy lines and build pockets..
taking these pockets with your infantry shouldnt be hard.
i organize my hqs seperately - but be sure to use generals/field mars. to get hqs advantage (skill isnt important).
most of your infantry should only be called in if necessary.. mostly guard surrounding provinces and move in and secure after the panzers have done the hard part.
its also essential that u retreat divisions that are low of org if you call in reinforcements (stack penalty)
your airforce should be set to interdiction.. its most effective..
you need to be patient in gröfatz a good defending army cant be overun from 1 province..
generally i dont really get why attackers have stack penalty and defenders dont..
i dont really like the whole stack idea even if i like the challenge - it makes some moves impossible (blitzkrieg was breaking through a line of defence not into a surrounded pocket..)
these are the basics.. i cant say that i never loose but i think this is how it should be played.
hope i could help
