reposted by request from warspite ...couldnt repost whole thread, but i could repost the start\

recently ive begun my second hungary game and to my tremendous surprise im having a blast...i find hungary is
actually a bit harder tahn most smaller states to play for several reasons...orthodox tech for one thing you will
always lose the tech race pretty much <im actually ahead in infra, even or ahead in trade, but lagging bad in land
and forget naval <ever heard of a Hungarian navy?> second is due to size it cost more dev points for each tech
breakthrough then if i was a smaller state so they even will outtech you early on and quickly plus rebuilding their
stability easier...plus even though you do have lots of provs <8> they are actually quite poor on the average even
with my one mod <i placed a silver mine in transylvania worth 35 for historical reasons >...and you have far more
"big" bad guys on your borders...Austria, Poland and Turkey all dislike you <austria will like you for while as long
as you stay allied to them if you dont it will fall slowly due to their cb on one of your provs>
also your startign techs arent very good..the 2 in land helps..espcially if austria dows venice early..you can seige
and take illyria and istria plus her capitol if you act fast and gain 2 coastl provs plus a common border with ragusa
which you can diplo annex later but most of your enemies will start higher or same but progress faster in land...so
forget winning field battles for quite some time

I currently am playing a game as Hungary which has reached early 1600's and im feeling pretty "BIG" for i own all
of the balkans <all my original lands plus moldavia, wallachia, ragusa, illyria, istria, cyclades, corfu, all of turkey's
balkan provs minus capitol plus krackow, galicia and bessarabia

i started off with setting taxes 100% into stability <you need this higher fast as this seriously affects income for
tax research as well as year end and set maint to zero in both land and navy <not that i had a navy but just in
case > i accepted austria's offer to ally and was quite happy when she dowed venice so i rushed in 11k to each of
istria and illyria and sent 20k to venice...got lucky and won the seiges without having them stolen from me
<austria had also been dowed by france which i honored but sent no troops to help for some time>..i got venice
to yeild istria and illyria in peace ..i finally had a port ...2 of em...and i saved up to build 2 warships <coulodnt build
transports yet tech too low>...i had split tech into 1/3rd land 1/3rd to trade and infra each...sent a small 11k army
into france <through milan helvetia by withdrawing from every fight they hit on way ...i took franche conte,
lyonaise and provence was seiging savoy when austria surrendered ...ended up disbanding that army couldnt
march it back and lacked enough naval transport to save it...during this time Turkey dowed mameluks and i waited
long for her to be commited then i dowed her and asked for help <all my allies honored> i sent several 6k armies
to each minimum fort in blaknas and 11k to each small fort <leaving a clear route to wallachia for their troops to
use to get into my lands so he would go after my cities not armies> i managed to seige macedonia bosnia kosovo
bulgaria and serbia and was nearing albania morea and hellas when i got surpirse offer ...macedonia serbia and
kosov for peace...woot !!! took it of course...and best part was i saw wallachia join right after i accepted offer...so
i turned around and dowed wallachia taking the hit...and causing war with turkey again...i still had my armies in
place in alabania, hellas, morea and bulgaria so i sent army to bosnia and dbrudja...i managed to seige them all
and got hellas and alabania in sep peace before going on to take wallachia and annex her <whoops badboy i am
now...i am at 15 badboy now > so i sit back and build up with my new and improved tax base...losing troops as
fast as i make them due to revolts <started game with 70k...by end of 3rd war i had 35k in 2 armies that i was
barely maintaining...eventually after a few years i managed to rebuild armies to 75k <3 25k armies> by taking all
research off line for a year using that cahs plus year end to rebuild>

after few years turkey redowed mameluks and i waited before dowing again <8 years passed im down to 13
badboy> i seige bosnia, dbruja, morea and rumelia <after his one army passed> i then got morea and bosnia in
peace....then Poland dows Bohemia i honor it and rush my troops to that border <took 1 of my 3 armies left the
other to fight rebels> i manged to split my army into 2 and seige krackow and galicia first...then poltava and
pripet...i asked for and got krackow and galacia ....spent much time rebuilding my armies all voer again and ighting
tons of rebels... my 4th war against turkey came as she dowed mameluks once again <mameluks are almost gone
now... I managed to seige rumelia dbruja smyrna and konya...and was offered rumelia dbrudja and konya which i
accepted evne though i didnt really want a moslem prov..set tolerance to zero <i had 1 colonist from random conq
event> and set about killing off the moslems in order to free the christian minorities from their oppressors...then
poland dows me...i ask for aid and my allies honor...i manage to send armies into and grab bessarabia moldavia.
bujak <moldavia polish ally with bujak option> and annex moldavia and make peace with poland for bessarabia....
now i have managed to avoid wars for quite some time and have rebuilt my amries <i now muster 125k troops in
5 25k armies...plus a proud hungarian fleet of 6 warships and 12 transports, all provs have level 2 forts tax
collectors and justicars...

ucrrently im at least 5 techs behind in land compared to austria <their troops scare me > but she will obviously be
a threat unless i can convince her to become MY vassal...1600...my monarch died off and i got nonhistoircal
regent...with 5 green dots for diplo only 3 in eco and 2 mil...so i shift all my forces to austrian border and start
demanding she be my vassal...12 years later after several declines she says yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <she failed to annex
bohemia and bohemia told her to take a leap before converting ..austria did fight a war and converted her back
whereupon i asked her into alliance and vassalized her myself >

currently thats where i stand...austria and bohemia are both fairly recent vassals ...Bavaria and Papal states are
allies both with 50 to 70 plus relations..and i am the sole prescence in the blakans after having fought a second
war agaisnt venice <she dowed me> where i got cyclades and corfu <my fleet served a purpose )))) >

i am planning another campaign agaisnt turkey soon to liberate more christians from their yoke...aleppo, smyrna,
trebizond and lebanon all cry out for freedom which i must provide so thats at least 2 wars ...and i plan to
eventually annex venice <shes down to capitol and 2 islands ..mantua was taken by austria> and at least 1 war
agaisnt poland to gain poltava to shore up that border <i want everything this side of the river> badboy is
currently down to i belive only a 0 now after so many years of peace and taking provs defensively

so has anyone else had this much a good time with hungary? i am having a total blast...its challenging and
humbling <accepting limitations right off that tech is something for once where i wont always lead in hehe> and
that armiy size will tend to be small for long time due to poor provs to support a big one let alone build it big...im
tempted to go back and play it once again and this time try to make an attempt at an aar with more detailed
workup..if there would be any interest in that
