Huszics, what are barracks?

Looking at your FAQs, you mentioned barracks. Did you mean conscription centers? I'm trying to figure out a way of increasing my manpower in non-national provinces (or core provinces or whatever - you know these are the only places you can put in a conscription center). I know about the Mayor promotion thingie but if you start with a really low manpower, it doesn't help much. My empire is pretty far-flung right now and I'm getting tired of either raising armies in the motherland and loading them on boats for the long trip abroad, or building 1K armies for a number of years and combining them. I'm ready to take on China but I'd like to raise troops locally in SE Asia. And you know they don't particularly like the Chinese so it shouldn't be that hard to persuade the locals to sign up.

Yes, Barracks is the savefile name for Conscription Centers (remnants from before I had access to the english text.csv, please tell me were you saw it an I'll fix it ASAP).

I'm ready to take on China but I'd like to raise troops locally in SE Asia.

Locally, city population helps a lot for the available recruits ...

Number 15 of your FAQs - How is the recruiting pool calculated.

Well, I guess I'll have to send more colonists to Hanoi until I can get a decent sized city to do a little recruiting. It's too bad you can only build conscription centers in national provinces. Hmm, you know, the next version of the game should allow for mercenaries. That way, if you're in the middle of prolonged peace (which I am - trying to lower my BB rating) and don't want to disband your troops, you can rent them out! Or pick up a force quickly if you gots the dough.
