This has been brought up before but...
since we will be dealing with a map that is not a model of the Earth, it will have 4 edges.
AFAIK the mythical people of the North were thought to be Hyperborians, the mythical people of the western ocean the Cimmerii and the people in Arabia and the horn of Africa were supposed to be troglodytes. Wouldn't it be nice with at least some text on the map indicating where the Troglodytes are or even better pictures of them?
Anyone got a good idea of what was thought to live in the Sahara or in Siberia?

Sergei has stated earlier that the map is finalized and not subject to any change. Not being a coder myself, it has been said that it is a complicated process to change anything in the map.
This is more a graphic issue though. I don't know if the map graphics are finalised, but I doubt it...

I also want "Here be dragons" on PTI and sea serpents in the ocean edges :D

Yes and in keeping with that theme, have the map entirely with a weathered/sepia tone color with the writing in a medieval script which you can barely make out, along with all those lines that don't really mean that much.

But seriously, I agree. Since you are constantly looking at the map it is nice to have one which has a lot of atmosphere.:)

I agree completely!

It is nice when the map is atmospheric(sp?)

I expect to see the explorations of St. Brendan the Navigator duly illustrated in the western margins of all maps :D Along with the location of hell, which he determined to be north of modern-day Iceland (having verified this through conversation with Judas Iscariot).

Maybe someone on the forum could verify this. Where's Legbiter when you need him??:D

Has anyone read Eco's "Baudolino" yet?

I think it would be pretty cool to have the land of Prester John off to the east. It would be tough to play -- the religious tolerance sliders especially would be a b*tch.
It would indeed be tough to play, since it's outside of the map ;)

Excuse my ignorance, but who is Prestor John?

The kingdom of Prester John was a medieval myth about a mighty christian kingdom in Africa, probably in the area of modern day Ethiopia, which makes sense in the way that ethiopians are Coptic christians.

Initially it was in Asia but it had to be moved to Africa after the Europe explored Asia throughly...

Gog and Magog (Yecuc and Mecuc in Islamic mythology) were closely affiliated with the peoples who lived beyond "Alexander's Gate" in Central Asia by the Arab and Persian scholars---was this also the case in Judaic mythology?

I don't. I only know it was not anywhere in the area covered by the map ;)

If you don't know where Prester John is/was then he could have been anywhere. He could have come down from Mt. Arrarat and slew the Turks or Mongols.;)
