i own eu4 through microsoft stores and i just bought a dlc but it gave me a steam key i entered it in and it says i need to activate the orginal game

If you have EUIV on Microsoft Stores, you need to buy the DLCs on the same store... you don't have the game on Steam.

You'll need to seek a refund for that purchase, lodge a ticket at paradox.zendesk.com with details.

Having the MS edition of the base game, you must buy all DLCs from them too or any retailers they may have, OR buy the base game again from us or Steam
